The Deputy Minister of Health from the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste led a delegation for a two-day working visit to Polkesyo on January 14 and 15, 2024. This visit aimed at fostering collaboration to enhance health human resources in Timor-Leste, particularly in the area of Anesthetist Nurse education. There are prospects for broadening cooperation into other areas such as research and community service in the future. During the visit, the Deputy Minister expressed the Timor-Leste government's confidence in the Poltekkes Kemenkes Yogyakarta's capacity to educate future healthcare professionals from Timor-Leste. They hope for expanded educational opportunities for Timorese students at Polkesyo. In 2024, the Timor-Leste Ministry of Health is offering fully funded scholarships for Timorese students to pursue training as Anesthetist Nurses at the Polkesyo Nursing Department.
The Director of Polkesyo, Dr. Iswanto, S.Pd, M.Kes, welcomed the opportunity for collaboration, aligning with Polkesyo's objective to increase the intake of foreign students. However, the Director emphasized the importance of maintaining quality by adhering to selection principles outlined in relevant regulations. This ensures that graduates meet high standards, with a target of achieving a 98% pass rate in the Competency Test (Ukom) and successfully integrating into the workforce as competent and professional practitioners. During the visit, the Timor-Leste Ministry of Health delegation engaged with Timorese students currently enrolled at Polkesyo and toured the educational facilities.
